July 2023 : Tulfarris
Tulfarris is always an enjoyable day out, and has always proven to be a stern test, particularly the closing few holes, where competitions can be lost and won! Congratulations to Matt Keenan who managed to be the only one to break 30 points on the day ! Click Here for full results.
June 2023 : Forrest Little
Forrest Little is a beautiful course, a little tight in places but always very well presented and maintained. The proximity to Dublin Airport however and in particular the new runway is a real distractor, and when the wind of the day decided to blow directly from the airport towards the golf course it meant the noise level was extremely high, due to numerous aircraft taking off. However it was the odour provided by the fumes that had a far more prominent impact on ones enjoyment. Regardless of this Martin Duggan was little impacted and brought in a great score of 34 points on the day. Click Here for full results.
May 2023 : Powerscourt (East)
Where else would you want to be on a sunny Sunday afternoon in May than strolling down a fairway of the wonderfully picturesque Powerscourt Golf Club !. Well done to Walter Rocket on yet another win on the HHGS tour! Click Here for full results.
Apr 2023 : Arklow
This was the first visit for the HHGS to Arklow, and a great day was on on the links. Well done to Darren Kenny on just about pipping the rest of the crowd to claim victory. Click Here for full results.
March 2023 : Knightsbrook
The HHGS headed up to Trim Co. Meath, and a first outing ever to Knightsbrook GC. A blustery day to start but turned into a beautiful evening to finish, which was evident on the returned cards, with scoring in general being better on the back nine, despite it having a tougher slope ratiing. Well done to Martin Duggan on just about pipping the rest of the crowd to claim the first victory of the year. Click Here for full results.
2023 Schedule Confirmed
The 2023 HHGS Schedule has now been finalised and I'm sure all will agree includes a very interesting set of courses that will suit all. Full schedule available HERE.

July 2022 - Luttrellstown Castle
A glorious afternoon was had in Luttrellstown, where the course was in sublime condition after the recent heat wave, as was evidenced from the scoring on the day. Congratulations to John Bergin who managed to top the leaderboard. Full results available HERE.
June 2022 - Powerscourt West
It may have been a tad damp at Powerscourt and even a bit foggy at times, however this didn't dampen the scoring for our winner on the day, congratulations to Giuseppe de Filippis on his second win on the HHGS tour! Full results available HERE.
May 2022 - Palmerstown House
Palmerstown House is definitely one of my personal favourite venues in Ireland a must for any lover of parkland golf. The course was playing tough as the scoring shows, yet John Bergin managed to finish on top of the pile, congratulations John. Full results available HERE.
April 2022 - Swords Open
The years have passed since the HHGS last graced the fairways of Swords Open, and it was great to make a return. Gerry Hasksins first foray onto the golf course after his winter hibernation and he must have slept well as he took the days top honours! Full results available HERE.

The HHGS tour headed to Rathcore for the first time to kick off the 2022 season. Basked in glorious sunshine it proved to be a difficult task, well for most bar one. Congratulations also to Giuseppe de Filippis on winning Golfer of the Year 2021, he just pipped Walter Rocket by 3 points !
Presidents : September 2021 - Black Bush
The 2021 Presidents prize was played at Black Bush, some 18 years since our last visit to Black Bush and the course has matured nicely resulting in a lot of very mature trees lining the fairways ! It was fitting that this years Captain Margin Duggan was victorious for the Presidents bringing in a very credible score of 39 points ! Check HERE for full details.
Captains : August(2) 2021 - Powerscourt West
2021 Captains took place on the west course of Powerscoirt Golf Club, and a very fitting venue it was. A true test of golf with every hole offering a different challenge. As such it was no mean feat to not only win but to break 40 points in the process ! Congatulations to David Beausang on his very well deserved victory. Check HERE for full details.
August(1) 2021 - K Club
The heat wave appears to have been replaced by the rainy season, yet with a stroke of luck we managed to escape and have a cracking day at the K club. The Ryder Cup Palmer North course was in resplendent form (a little soggy in places), the pins were tucked away into what can only be described as Captain day pin locations making an already challenging course somewhat even more challenging.
Therefore it was an exceptional day for Ronan McGlue who was the only one to break 30 points and as such easily top the leader board! Check HERE for full details.
July(2) 2021 - Moyvalley
Towards the end of the heatwave 16 brave souls ventured out on to Moyvalley. Not only did the temperatures soar, the scores on the day soared even higher ! Well done to James Cleere on reaching a boiling 44 points ! Check HERE for full details.
July(1) 2021 - Ashbourne
First of two outings in July saw the HHGS heading to Ashbourne. Well done to Dara Ambury, who was victorious on the day. Check HERE for full details.
June 2021 - Tulfarris
Congratulations to Michael Ryan on winning the first outing of 2021 ! Check HERE for full details.
Schedule 2021
2020 Season when originally booked promised to be very exciting... sadly this did not transpire, however in the grand scheme of things not being able to play golf is a very minor issue when compared to peoples health. Our 2021 schedule is now in place, and it certainly contains some very promising and exciting venues. Check Here for more details.

August 2020(2) - K Club
Sadly our second outing for August 2020 and our first venture to the K Club has fallen victim to Covid-19 lockdown restrictions which have been extended for Co. Kildare. This outing has been rebooked for May 2021.
August 2020(1) - Captains - Druids Glenn
Captains day this year had the very fitting venue of Druids Glenn, which is without a shadow of a doubt one of the most beautiful and challenging parkland courses in Ireland, and always a joy to play. Huge congratulations to James Kenny on claiming the claret jug for 2020 ! Having witnessed his birdie on the long and treacherous par 3 17th, that alone to be made him more than worthy to get his name on the clart jug ! Check HERE for full results.
July 2020(2) - Palmerstown
Palmerstown is a HHGS favourite, where you virtually never hear a shout of "fore" due to the vastness of the course. Saturday proved to be a tough day out there, with just one player breaching thirty points! Congrats to Ger Owens ! Check HERE for full results.
July 2020(1) - Elmgreen
Elmgreen was the venue that hosted the first post lockdown outing, and an excellent day was had with some excellent scores. Congratulations to Mick Devereux on proving to be the least rusty of us all coming in with a fantastic score of 39 points. Check HERE for full results.
New 2020 Schedule
We now have a revised schedule for the 2020 HHGS tour. Sadly we had to reduce our schedule by two outings due to the seaon not being able to kick off until July, however we've managed to squeeze in two outings mid month in July and August, with both of these taking place on a friday due to membership requests.:w Outings will kick off in mid-july at Elmgreen, followed by three outings to some really fantastic courses, Palmerstown, Druids Glen and then the K Club, before finishing off the season in September at Lisheen Springs. Full schedule can be seen HERE.
Presidents - September 2019 - Grange Castle
The final outing for the 2019 season took place in Grange Castle on Saturday 28th September 2019, Ireland getting beaten by Japan in the Rugby World Cup just prior to tee-off damped things slightly, but it certainly didn't impact Giuseppe de Filippis, who even with -3 penalty points still outperformed all around and in doing so also captured Golfer of the Year for 2019. Congrats Giuseppe ! Check HERE for full results.
Captains - August 2019 - Palmerstown House
The honour of displaying the claret jug for the coming year was fought over last Saturday, and what better place to test ones golfing ability than Palmerstown House. It was in splendid condition as usual, with fast greens, lots of sand traps, tons of water and the occasional angry swan !. All this was stirred up little fear in one golfer, who marched around the golf course with ease. Congratulations to Mark Linehan on a great win. Check HERE for full results.
July 2019 - Luttrellstown Castle
Luttrellstown Castle is one of my personal favourite courses in the Dublin area, and Saturday only but confirmed my opinion. The course was in perfect condition, with some of the fastest greens I've played in quite a while. Congratulations to Gerry Haskins on mastering the greens to come in with 37 points. Check HERE for full results.
June 2019 - Carton House (Montgomerie)
The HHGS returned to Carton House again this year, but this time to take on the Monty for the first time. Now it's definitely the more difficult of the two Carton House courses, however the scores certainly didn't indicate that. Martin Duggan blitzed his way through the front nine with 24 points, and he cruised home with 17 more to take first spot, well done Maritn. Check HERE for full results.
May 2019 - Naas Golf Club
Its been a few years since the HHGS last traversed the lush fairways of Naas, and it never fails to impress. There was truly one winner today, Michael Rayn literally blew away the competition, finishing 12 points clear of the field on 43 points... wow ! Check HERE for full results.
April 2019 - Balcarrick Golf Club
Our second outing of 2019 and perfectly timed to conincide with Storm Hannah ! But that didn't deter us, in fact I reckon the severely windy conditions straightened out a number of my drives !. Check HERE for full results.
March 2019 - Donabate Golf Club
The first outing of 2019 took place at Donabate Golf Club, the turnout was a little low, but that didn't dampen the enthuasism or the quality of the golf which was supreme. Huge congratulations to Owen Hoey on his first ever HHGS tour championship win. Owen has been a stallworth member of the HHGS for many years but could never break through to the top ranked spot. Retirement has proven to be the key to his success !! Check HERE for full results.

However it was Neil who proved to be the hungrier on the day and secured a 5 & 3 victory. It was nice to complete this years competition within the same calendar year, thanks to all the participants getting their matches played promptly during the year. Check HERE for full results.
Golfer of the Year 2018
A thrilling end to this years Golfer of the Year competition, most folk (including myself) thought there were just two real contenders David Flynn and Walter Rockett. This ensures that penalties and extra points are definitely applied. See Rules for full details.

September 2010 : Co. Meath GC (Trim)
The final singles outing of the 2009 season and Co. Meath Golf Course was a very fitting battleground for the Golfer Of The Year showdown between Walter Rockett, Mick Devereux and Darragh O'Brien. It really was Walter's to lose, Darragh had to shoot a minimum of 35 and hope Walter shot 28 or less to tie, Mick a further point behind needed a minimum of 36 to tie.

Mick arrived into the club house with an impressive 38 Points so the gauntlet was definitely thrown down to Walter, who now needed to arrive in with a minumum of 31 pts to claim the trophy for his second time this decade and to stop Mick from retaining it.

Darragh arrived in with 32 pts So unfortunately was out of the race.

So with bated breath and a stiff drink Mick awaited Walters arrival, and as luck would have it Walter did the exact minimum required and brought in precisely 31 pts, to take the Golfer of the Year 2009 by the smallest of margins, a single point !! Congratulations Walter.

Let's not forget the actual victor on the day, Dara Ambury shooting a fantastic 39 points !!

Captains 2008 : Mountrath
The first major of 2008 took place in Mountrath Golf Club, and what a day, the rain clouds disappeared and sub-tropical conditions were their substitute. The warm dry conditions proved to be the tonic as the scoring was excellent. Captain Paul Stanley had the high score of the day but unfortunately could not take his own prize, so it was Walter Rockett with an excellent 37 pts who took the honours. Walter will be the first name on the new Captains Perpetual Claret Jug !! Full outing results : Here.
June 2008 : Glebe
The 3rd outing of 2008 took place on 14th of June 2008 in Glebe Golf Club. Some high scoring with Mick Devereux and Brian Keenan both scoring 37 points, but Mick just pipped Brian with a slightly better back 9. Full Results.
May 2008 : Bellewstown
The 2nd outing of 2008 took place on 10th of May 2008 in Bellewstown Golf Club. When you drive into the car park and see motorised golf carts parked 3 deep, it should be taken as a sign that there might be some climbs in store. Well there was a few but that nor the thunder and lightning didn't deter the Happy Hackers from trudging the fairways of Bellewstown. Congratulations to Matt Keenan on winning with 34 points. Full Outing Results.
April 2008 : Dunmurry Springs
The first outing of 2008 took place on 5th of April 2008 in Dunmurry Springs Golf Club just outside Kildare town. Congratulations to Dara Ambury on his first win on the HHGS Tour.Full Results.
Schedule 2008
The 2008 Schedule is nearing completion, and contains three new courses, never played by the Hackers before, so should prove to be an exciting start to the new season.
Turkey Shoot 2007
The Turley Shoot for 2007 took place in Elmgreen Golf Centre on saturday 17th of November. The forecasted storm only managed to harden the resolve of the participants. The winning team contained two of last years winning team and the third member won the previous year, so me thinks these will have to be split apart for 2008. Congrats to the "Remains Of The Day", comprising of Darragh O'Brien, Walter Rockett and Dave Savage. Full results available Here
Singles Matchplay Final 2007
The final contenders for the Singles Matchplay 2007 were been confirmed, Matt Keenan and John Devereux. This was a rematch of the first ever Singles Matchplay final held in 2003 where John was the victor then 2&1. The venue this time around was Rathcore Golf & Country Club, and a fitting venue indeed, neither had played it before. John started the better and was three up after 7 holes, but then Matt decided it was time to play some golf and 4 holes later he was 1 up, after a par, par, birdie, birdie purple patch. Matt was 3 up after 15 holes, and amazingly no holes had been halved at this stage so it was fitting that the first halved hole, the par 3 16th was to decide the match. Matt winning 3&2. This makes it 2 years in succession where Matt has gained the honours of Singles Matchplay Champion and Golfer of The Year... Can he do the hatrick in 2008 ?
Turkey Shoot 2007
The Turley Shoot for 2007 will be held in Elmgreen Golf Centre on saturday 17th of November. It will be the usual format of 3 person team scramble.
September 2007 : Castlecomer
The final singles outing of the year was help in Castlecomer GC on saturday 29th of September. A great day was had, on what was definitely one of the tougher courses played this year where stamina and physical fitness were a must, especially for the climb to the 11th tee box. Congratulations to Matt Keenan, bringing in a score of 37pts and his 2nd win on the HHGS tour this year. Also guaranteed him the Golfer of the Year merit for the 2nd successive year.
Presidents Day : August 2007 : Highfield
The second major of the year took place in Highfield GC. It's been five years since our last outing in Highfield, most enjoyable then and even though the greens were somewhat water logged, making putting interesting, an enjoyable day was had by all, and everyone actually showed up !!. Kevin Shally emerged victorious scoring 39pts on a day where conditions were tough, to take his first ever Major.
Captains Day : July 2007 : Mountrath
The first major of the year took place in Mountrath GC on saturday 28th of July. A great day was had and even a reasonable turnout. New member Mick Devereux came in well ahead of the field with 37pts, which was a great score considering the toughness of the course after all the recent rain.
June 2007 : Sillogue
Third outing of 2007 took place in Sillogue Park GC (Christy O'Connor) on saturday 16th June. The course was in the best condition I have ever witnessed. A new winner on the HHGS tour, new member Brian Keenan came in well ahead of the field with 38pts.
May 2007 : Kilcock GC
Second outing of 2007 took place in Kilcock GC on saturday 19th May, the turn out was unfortunately poor, but for those who did brave it, were rewarded. The wind blew strong but that did not deter Matt Keenan from bringing in 35 pts for victory. Followed closely by Walter Rockett on 34 pts.
April 2007 : Bodenstown GC
First outing of 2007 took place in Bodenstown GC and it proved to be a great day out. Walter Rocket was victor on the day.

Singles Matchplay 2006 Final
The final of the Singles Matchplay took place at Lucan Golf Club on Monday afternoon 23rd of October. A unusally warm sunny afternoon for late october. Ronan started off the strongest and was 1up after 4 holes, but 3 holes later the match was all square again. After that it was 1up or all square right up to the 18th, where Matt was 1up on the tee box, knowing all that was needed was to half the hole, Matt's approach was on the back of the green, so Ronan had to go for it and pulled it slightly into the left green side bunker, Ronan chipped out to 15 feet, and Matt lagged his putt to 3 feet. Ronan's putt rolled 3 feet past the hole, at which point he conceded the hole and the Match. So at his 2nd time of trying, Matt has become the first player to hold both Singles Matchplay and Golfer of The Year at the same time. In 2003, he was pipped by John Devereux in the final of the Matchplay. Full Details click here.
Singles Matchplay 2006
The seond finalist has now been decided for this years Singles Matchplay competition, and it's a repeat finalist, Ronan French defeated Liam Merwick on the 22nd hole, in an epic encounter. Ronan who was in last years final and lost it to Liam, was very keen to make amends for losing, and will surely be the favourite to win, even though he faces another previous finalist Matt Keenan. Should be a good battle.
September : Co. Meath
The final singles outing of the year was held in County Meath Golf Club in Trim, on Saturday 16th of September, and a glorious day out it was. The timesheet was full with people thinking about the Ryder Cup the following week. Congratulations to Ronan French on winning the outing on score of 36 points. This outing also decided the Golfer of the Year, and Matt Keenan takes that honour for the second time. Click here for full results..
Singles Matchplay 2006
First of the finalists for the 2006 Matchplay Final is now known, Matt Keenan defeated Brian Costello 8&7, in what can only be described as a very one sided affair. Brian simply never got out of the blocks. The other side of the Draw sees Ronan French vs (Colm Harrington or Liam Merwick).

April 2006 : Stackstown
The first outing of 2006 was held in Stackstown, in the foothills of the Dublin Mountains. This is the home stomping ground of none other than Padraig Harrington, I can safely say Padraig has not been back to Stackstown in a while, the place is a shambles. In fairness they are doing a lot of improvements to the course, but in my opinion which is shared by pretty much everyone who played on the day, they are trying to do too much in one go. Each group should have been given a compass and a map before heading out, trying to locate the next tee-box was quite challenging. I've seen better pitch-n-putt holes than some of the temporary measures they have in place. To top it off they had the cheek to charge full green fees on the day. Definitely a black mark is going down against Stackstown from this society, and a shame because the setting etc is breathtaking. Stackstown are officially our first entry into the Hall Of Shame. Enough ranting, congratulations to Conor Murphy on winning the outing, this being his virgin outing for the Happy Hackers aswell, all bodes well for Conor down the line. Full Results..
Committee 2006
Congratulations to Darragh O'Brien who was successfully voted in as the incoming Vice-Captain. He narrowly defeated Paul Stanley in the role. Liam Merwick is remaining our secretary for 2006.

Singles Matchplay 2005
The final was held on the same day as the presidents in Swords between Liam Merwick and Ronan French. Ronan was conceding 9 shots to Liam, a big ask to overcome and he galantly held it going right to the bitter end, but Liam having a shot on the last and they both par'd left him the victor 1up... Congrats !! Full details Here.
Presidents Day 2005
A fantastic Mid-September day was the setting for this years presidents prize. Held in Swords Open on Sat 17th. Thanks to all who turned out. Singles Matchplay 2005 Finalists
A humid evening in Tulfarris was the setting for the second semi-final of the 2005 HHGS Singles Matchplay Competition between John Devereux and Liam Merwick. Ronan French awaited the victor in the Final. And even though it was John's home course he could do nothing to stop the rebel Merwick from advancing, mind you the 20 footer on the 18th to seal victory by one hole was the real winner !! The final should be a cracker and we are guaranteed a new name on the cup !!
Captains 2005 : Newbridge
What a difference a bit of sunshine makes !, Newbridge on Saturday was steeped in glorious sunshine, resulting in a great day for the Captains Prize 2005. We even had a hole-in-one scored by non other than Colm McDermott !! But it was John Devereux's 41 pts which included 3 birdies that pushed all others aside, well done John. My scissors are being sharpened !! Check Here for full details.
Captains 2005 : Newbridge
Take 2 for the Captains Day 2005, this time lets hope we get better weather then we got for Mountrath !!. Check Here for full details.
Captains 2005 : Mountrath
Well unfortunately for all those that travelled, the Captains Day for 2005 in Mountrath turned out to be a bit damp, so damp in fact that the greens flooded and the outing had to be called off. So the captains has been rescheduled to take place on 20th Of August in Newbridge. The Presidents has been moved out to the following months outing in Swords. As a result penalty points will not be deducted from people and the golfer of the year will be reduced to 4 out of 5 outings.
June 2005 : Millicent
By all accounts last Saturday in Millicent was a good one, the course was playing tough, what with the fantastically unusual warm weather, the snarly rough and the fast greens, but this did not affect our esteemed Captain Walter Rockett, who managed to come in with a wonderful 33 pts on the day and savour victory. Full details can be seen Here. The next outing is Captains day in Mountrath, looking forward to seeing you all there.

One of Dublins great golfing resources is closing at the end of this year. The Open Golf Center in Finglas. This establishment was the first venue that the Happy Hackers Played way back in December 2000. So just before it closes down for old times sake we are holding this years Turkey Shoot in the OGC. This year we are going to have a slightly different format to our scramble. Each team member is only allowed to bring 3 golf clubs !!, and yes your putter does count as a club. Each member can only use their own clubs, no sharing !. This should prove both challenging and a bit of a laugh, an excellent way to finish off our third year. Check HERE for full details.
